Anticipation

This painting has been an ongoing story for awhile.I loved the movement in the sky and was inspired by a fisherman on our beach, with the posture of readiness. The fishermen here stick the pole in the sand and watch for action. The bird and the dog gave me some repetition in the shapes. This adds a little dance as well. The ocean is always a moving force to capture.

Bathed in the Light

I have not painted since the mural post. Life has over-run art. Not good. So I credit my sister Linda for inspiring me again. "Bathed in the Light" challenged me in a couple of ways. I usually don't paint small, so that was a mental hurdle. I wanted to capture the feeling with limited strokes, in the impressionistic way, so no reworking knit picking was allowed. I am happy with how it came out and I am giving it to Linda as a birthday gift. Thanks to Linda for her inspiration by example, the best way to learn, as the image I hope, portrays.

Ocean View

I finally finished this mural on our deck. We traveled down to the Keys and I was inspired by all the murals. My inspiration was to give a dimensional illusion of the view. The ocean is actually in this direction about a block away, so it was fun. The roses are an added taste of reality. I love painting this large and have done murals before, but not for a while. Someday, I would love to have a real water view, but it would have to be facing west, where my heart is.

These great birds are found hunting in the many waterways of Florida. This image depicts the deep hammock of back woods Florida. I saw deep and cool and mysterious in this painting.

Hoping To Score

These folks were quite the image, as they checked in on Flagler Ave. near my home. I love capturing a story, that anyone can then imagine for themselves. I am still taken with this impressionistic figure work, much more fun than the tight perfection. And I think it has more life.

SALTY DOG BLUES

This painting is a nostalgic trip down memory lane for me. The characters were part of a traveling "medicine show" that was formed by myself and others looking for a venue for our creative talents in the late 1970's. It was painted from a photograph and I have used my artistic license to change some of their looks and eliminated others for the composition. It was a fun and crazy time for us all that were involved, and the process of depicting the time took me back. I may be inspired to do a whole series of this arena and group. In these mean spirited times, a little reminder of laughter and music lures me to spread the feeling.

Second Hand Rose

This painting was created for the publicity campaign for Atlantic Center for the Arts fundraiser, "Second Hand Rose" fashion show and boutique. After the show, the committee members purchased the painting as a gift to the Chairwoman, for doing such a great job. I am a member of this league and was happy to contribute to the event that raises money for the children's art programs.

This is the first painting I have completed this Summer. My own circumstances have been challenging, so this lady is an inspiration. I took her picture last Spring and my painting buddies and I are all going to paint her! I continue to be inspired by Jane Slivka's style which is fresh and impressionistic. It is fun to paint this way!

Capturing the feeling and movement of Surfer Girls was the goal in this painting. I am learning about loose, fresh figure impressions, and this is an example of that. The idea is to capture the movement and atmosphere in very quick strokes. I like the way this one came out.

This painting was inspired by a visit to the gulf....so blue over there, and these lovely blonds complimented the colors. The body language intrigued me. Everyone seemed a little tight. The story is in the eye of the viewer.

This painting reflects my "surreal inspirations" of late. The ocean is near my home, so it is often where I go to imagine. I am focused on movement in my work and found this challenging and exciting to capture shadows and motion. This painting is framed in a simple dark blue frame that has a bit of the driftwood look to it. The image is 20x24 with a 1 1/2" frame.

I painted this during our annual vist to the great Copper River in Alaska. I spent 3 days on the cliff overlooking this view and we came home with a bunch of Copper River red salmon.

This painting was the first in my "surreal series" I just enjoy the odd perspective. I was sitting on the ground looking at this incredible field on a summer day at the Alaska Botanical Gardens.
